xLS Needs Assessment Report
A company’s website acts as a virtual storefront, and as such, should be an effective showcase of the organization’s identity. Currently, the website employed by Extension Learning Solutions (xLS) does not provide a complete picture of the organization’s services, research innovation interests, and future plans. In an effort to bring currency and increased functionality to our web presence, xLS initiated a plan for website redevelopment.
xLS’ current website is a re-branded version of the Academic Technologies for Learning website, which received its last major update in 2003-2004. Since this major update was completed, the website has remained relatively static, with only minor content changes. As a consequence, in January 2006 Learning Solutions began the process of analysing and evaluating their present site to ensure that the website provides the following functionality:
- xLS’ web presence should accurately reflect the organization’s identity and mission;
- The expanded webpresence should facilitate xLS’ work with internal and external clients;
- The redesigned website should provide past, present, and potential partners an online environment to collaborate and exchange ideas.
The primary objective of the Learning Solutions Web Presence Needs Analysis Survey was to gather information that would be used to create resources and online services that demonstrate the capabilities of the organization.
